Last updated: October 14, 2026
This policy explains what personal data DevOps Medium ("we", "us") collects when you use devopsmedium.com, why we collect it, and the choices you have. If you have questions, email hello@devopsmedium.com.
Summary
- You can read every tutorial, lab manual and article without an account.
- We collect personal data only when you contact us, and only to reply to you.
- We don't sell your data and we don't run analytics.
- We show ads from Google AdSense. They're personalised unless you choose Necessary Only, in which case you see non-personalised ads. You can change your choice at any time with Cookie Settings in the site footer.
Data We Collect
When You Contact Us
The contact form asks for your name, email address, an optional subject and your message. We also record your approximate country, which our hosting provider derives from your IP address. We send this to our own inbox by email so we can reply. We keep messages as long as we need them to handle your request and any follow-up, and we delete them on request.
When You Browse
Our hosting and content delivery provider, Cloudflare, processes technical data needed to deliver the site and keep it secure: your IP address, browser user agent, the pages you request and the time of each request. We may use Cloudflare Turnstile to protect the contact form from spam. Turnstile checks your browser without tracking you across sites.
When You Search
Search queries are sent to our database provider, Supabase, to find matching pages. We don't link queries to you or keep a search history.
Cookies
We use a small number of cookies and similar browser storage. Necessary items are always on. Google AdSense sets advertising cookies to personalise and measure ads; you can turn personalisation off.
| Name | Provider | Purpose | Category | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|---|
dm_consent | DevOps Medium | Remembers your cookie choice | Necessary | 6 months |
theme (local storage) | DevOps Medium | Remembers light or dark theme | Necessary | Until you clear it |
dm:tabs (local storage) | DevOps Medium | Remembers code tab choices, e.g. Helm or kubectl | Necessary | Until you clear it |
| Google AdSense cookies | Show, personalise and measure ads; limit fraud | Advertising (personalisation can be turned off) | Set by Google, up to 13 months |
To change your choice, use Cookie Settings in the footer of any page. You can also block or delete cookies in your browser settings. If you do, some preferences won't be remembered.
Advertising
We show ads through Google AdSense to keep our content free. Ads are personalised by default. If you choose Necessary Only or turn off personalised advertising in Cookie Settings, we ask Google for non-personalised ads and pass your choice to Google through Google Consent Mode. Non-personalised ads can still use cookies for frequency capping, aggregated reporting and fraud prevention. Visitors in the European Economic Area, the UK and Switzerland may also see Google's own consent message.
- Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this and other websites.
- Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visits to this and other sites on the internet.
- You can opt out of personalised advertising in Google's Ads Settings. You can also opt out of some third-party vendors' use of cookies at aboutads.info.
- Learn how Google uses data when you use our partners' sites.
Third-Party Content
- YouTube videos use YouTube's privacy-enhanced mode (
youtube-nocookie.com) and load only when you press play. - Author photos are loaded from GitHub, which receives your IP address when your browser fetches the image.
- Links to other sites, such as GitHub repositories, are governed by those sites' own privacy policies.
How We Use Your Data and Our Legal Bases
- To reply to you when you contact us: our legitimate interest in answering your request, or steps you asked us to take.
- To run and secure the site: our legitimate interest in a working, safe website.
- To show ads: our legitimate interest in funding free content, and where the law requires it, your consent. You can opt out of personalised ads at any time.
Sharing and International Transfers
We share data only with the service providers that run the site for us: Cloudflare (hosting, security), Supabase (database), our email provider (delivering contact form messages) and Google (advertising). These providers may process data in countries other than yours. Where required, they protect it with appropriate safeguards such as standard contractual clauses.
Your Rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, delete or export your personal data, to object to or restrict how we use it, and to withdraw consent at any time. To make a request, email hello@devopsmedium.com. You can also complain to your local data protection authority.
Children
DevOps Medium is not directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect their personal data. If you believe a child has sent us personal data, contact us and we'll delete it.
Changes to This Policy
We'll update this page when our practices change, and revise the date at the top. Significant changes will be highlighted on the site.
